The 2002-03 CIRCLE Entrepreneurship series organized by Lafayette students continues with a talk by Dave Leyrer ’89 on “Why Entrepreneurship Works” 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, in Oechsle Hall.
Leyrer is a founder and general partner of Nexus Group LLC, a venture capital firm based in San Francisco. Nexus has raised and invested over $300 million in dozens of primarily technology industry companies since 1995. Previously, he was a director at Credit Suisse First Boston Technology Group and DMG Technology Group. Earlier in his career, he worked at Salomon Brothers in New York and Lehman Brothers in San Francisco.
”Dave is going to speak about the past 13-plus years as a successful entrepreneur and what he has learned works for him,” says Kelly Maiers (Telford, Pa.), one of four senior economics and business majors organizing this year’s series. “He hopes to give some general thoughts about starting a business and some things he wished he had done differently.”
Leyrer is also president of Singular Pictures, LLC, a Los Angeles-based feature film production company that recently produced SIN, starring Gary Oldman and Ving Rhames, which is slated for a late summer 2003 release. Additionally, he is active in real estate through Bristol Holdings LLC, where he has been involved in purchasing and operating both an apartment complex and a self-storage facility and is currently restoring an historic home in Santa Barbara. Leyrer is a member of the University of California-Santa Barbara Graduate School of Education Dean’s Council and serves on the board of Adopt-a-Classroom, a nonprofit organization based in Miami.
