Sophomores Jennifer Rusak and Michael Lestingi led the Lafayette Forensics Society to an outstanding performance in its most recent competition, a tournament at Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, W.Va., Oct. 26-27.
Rusak, a neuroscience major from Ashley, Pa., placed first in Lincoln-Douglas debate and persuasive speaking. Lestingi, a mechanical engineering major from Tallmadge, Ohio, won communication analysis and finished second in Lincoln-Douglas debate.
Four of five Forensics Team members placed in at least one event, pacing the team to an overall fourth place finish among 11 schools.
Erik Heins, a first-year student from Center Moriches, N.Y., placed fourth in impromptu speaking and sixth in extemporaneous speaking. Kenya Flash, a junior government and law major from Coopersburg, Pa., earned sixth place in prose reading. She also competed in poetry reading. Pavlos Lykos, a first-year student from Easton, Pa., competed in Lincoln-Douglas debate.
The group was accompanied by Lincoln-Douglas coach Jon Honiball and individual events coach Scott Placke. Lafayette’s director of forensics is Bruce Allen Murphy, Fred Morgan Kirby Professor of Civil Rights.
