Kamil Taitt ’03 (Morristown, N.J.) is investigating civil wars in Rwanda and Burundi for an independent study project this term.
“This topic came about because I wanted to examine how the roots of colonialism are still evident through social and economic divide within Africa,” the government and law major says. “My parents are from Trinidad and Tobago and that’s where my interest in international and comparative politics arose.”
He is working with John McCartney, associate professor and head of government and law. “My interest in doing an independent study grew from my relationship with Dr. McCartney. I’ve attained a vast amount of knowledge of African, comparative, and international politics, having taken one course each semester with him since my freshman year,” Taitt says. “We spoke a great deal this past summer about the project.”
A graduate of Morristown High School, Taitt is a member of Kappa Delta Rho fraternity. Taitt’s brother Jamaal graduated from Lafayette in 1997.
