Chief of oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery at Temple University School of Medicine, Dr. Edward H. “Ned” Bedrossian Jr. ’73 is editor-in-chief of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery: Decision Making and Techniques, a new surgical textbook. The book discusses the subtleties in diagnosis and the newest surgical strategies.
Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery is Bedrossian’s first book, although he has published numerous journal articles and contributed chapters to other textbooks. He is also chair, department of ophthalmology, Delaware County Memorial Hospital; attending surgeon and teacher, Wills Eye Hospital and Temple University School of Medicine; and education chair, Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology.
A chemistry graduate, Bedrossian says he wasn’t a very good student when he arrived at Lafayette. “Lafayette was instrumental in teaching me how to study, organize, and prioritize. That carried me through medical school and even helped me manage all the contributors and the 600 illustrations in my book,” he says. “In my career, I’ve needed the science skills and the discipline I gained through studying chemistry. And to be a good doctor you need people skills–my liberal arts courses helped prepare me for the outside world.”
Bedrossian received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine and is a fellow of American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, and American College of Surgeons.
