Vice president and actuary with AXA Financial in New York City, Kathleen Rowland Wong ’75 has been elected to a three-year term on the board of governors of the Society of Actuaries. A professional, educational, and research organization, the society has more than 16,500 members in Canada and the United States. Members practice primarily in the fields of life and health insurance, pensions, employee benefits, and investments.
Wong’s professional expertise is in finance. She has served on many SOA committees including those on actuarial examinations. “I’ve been very involved with helping to develop actuarial exams, particularly in the finance area,” says Wong. “That’s the role that led to my being elected to the board.” She also serves on other professional actuarial bodies including American Academy of Actuaries and American Council of Life Insurers.
Before joining AXA Financial four years ago, Wong was employed by Standard & Poors as director, insurance ratings. Prior to that, she spent 18 years with Prudential.
A mathematics graduate, Wong says, “As a math major, I was most influenced by Dr. Crawford, but it was Dr. Landau who suggested I take the actuarial exam when I was a senior.”
