Lifford L.L. McLauchlan will speak on “Supervised Learning and Unsupervised Learning Applied to Robotic Manipulator Control” noon tomorrow in Acopian Engineering Center room 315.

Sponsored by the electrical and computer engineering department, the talk is open to the campus community. Free pizza will be provided.

The talk is based on McLauchlan’s master’s thesis. He received bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University in College Station.

McLauchlan has worked as senior electrical engineer at Raytheon Electronic Systems in McKinney, Texas. He taught four years as assistant lecturer in the Texas A&M electrical engineering department.

In other department news, the student chapter of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers will hold elections for officers noon tomorrow in Acopian Engineering Center room 300. All electrical and computer engineering majors are encouraged to attend. Free pizza will be provided.

On Tuesday, Neo A. Antoniades, visiting research associate at Columbia University’s Center for Resilient Networks, spoke at Acopian Engineering Center on “Engineering Metropolitan Area Fiber Optic Communication Networks.” The center focuses on researching and prototyping regional networking that serves the needs of emergency workers, public officials, and citizens during natural and man-made emergencies.
