People around the nation are smiling at the stand-up comedy and juggling act of Eddie Sax ’82. “Performing is an itch I’ve always had,” he says. “Making people laugh off-script is the most rewarding aspect for me. The further off-script you go, the more fun it is for everyone. Spontaneity is the highest form of comedy.”

Sax, who once owned five comedy clubs in Hawaii, has performed on Showtime’s Comedy Club Network and A&E’s “Comedy on the Road” and opened for celebrities such as Kenny G, Natalie Cole, and Jay Leno. He returned to the stage after an eight-year hiatus last December and performs about twice monthly.

An electrical engineering graduate, Sax says what he learned at Lafayette can be summed up by an off-the-cuff remark made by an engineering professor. “While going over a complex math proof, Prof. Reif Snyder turned to the class and said, ‘You’re not going to remember any of this stuff when you graduate. What we are doing is teaching you how to think. If you can tackle a problem like this, you can tackle anything,’” Sax recalls.

Assistant editor of Endtime Magazine, a publication that examines how current world events fulfill biblical prophesies, Sax also cohosts Baxter’s nationally syndicated radio broadcast “Politics & Religion.”

When Sax graduated, he worked for General Electric as a marketing engineer for four years before his entrepreneurial spirit led him to Hawaii.
