Lafayette’s fraternities and sororities gave more than 5,400 hours of community service during the past school year, not including individual efforts in volunteering.
The Greek community also was responsible for raising and donating more than $40,000 to local and national charities in 2002-03, according to Eliot Sokalsky, assistant director of residence life and adviser to fraternities and sororities.
For the first time, all 13 fraternities and sororities had a collective grade point average above 3.0. The average GPA for a sorority sister was 3.395 for the spring 2003 semester. All six sororities had an average GPA above 3.3, and three were above 3.4.
Alpha Gamma Delta earned the highest average at 3.452, followed in order by Delta Gamma, Alpha Phi, Phi Beta Phi, Kappa Gamma Delta, and Tri-Delt.
Kappa Delta Rho finished with the highest average GPA for a fraternity, followed by Chi Phi, Delta Kappa Epsilon, Phi Kappa Psi, Phi Gamma Delta, Delta Upsilon, and Zeta Psi.
“The Greek community has worked hard this past year to help the College achieve its goal of becoming the number one small, private, liberal arts school in the nation,” says Sokalsky.
