Students will meet with prospective employers looking to fill full-time and summer internship positions during the fall Career Fair sponsored by Career Services 4:30-8 p.m. today in Marquis Hall.
Representatives from 40 employers, including Airborne Express, Akzo Nobel, Central Intelligence Agency, Atofina Chemicals, Con Edison, Deloitte & Touche, New York State Department of Transportation, the Peace Corps, and the Secret Service, will be in attendance.
Students may contact Career Services for a complete list of companies and organizations to plan their itinerary for the event.
“The Career Fair exposes students to a variety of careers and industries, and enables them to begin the networking and job search process,” says Linda Arra ’74, director of career services. ”It is important for students to attend the fair because they can explore career goals and learn more about what employers are looking for in Lafayette graduates. It’s a great way to connect with employers in a less formal setting than a structured interview.”
The event is geared primarily to seniors and juniors. In the spirit of Lafayette’s innovative Gateway program, which promotes early education about career issues, sophomores and first-year students are invited to attend to learn what to expect at a fair.
Besides the Career Fair, there are many other career-development opportunities available for students. Career Services and academic departments provide numerous networking opportunities. Students interested in fields not represented in the Career Fair can take advantage of programs such as AlumNet, a searchable database of alumni willing to give informational interviews; networking “field trips;” special-interest panel discussions; and more.
