Three of the four intramural division championship teams from 2002-03 are in first place after completion of this season’s first six events.
The Process, a group of chemical engineering majors, is 25 points ahead of Kappa Delta Rho in the men’s Greek division, while Tri-Delt has a thin two-point advantage over Alpha Gamma Delta among women Greeks. On the residence hall side, the Watson Hall men have a four-point lead and the PT Farinon women are tied with Keefe Hall for first.

Pi Phi rolled to a sweep of AGD in all three places of bocce ball, contested Oct. 2-3 on March Field. Dyan Argento and Jenna Cellini won 12-3 to take the title, followed by Danielle Disandro and Melissa Spitz in second place and Caitlyn Herman and Erin Wolfson in third. On the men’s side, Peter Gray and Peter Jeffe went undefeated in the regular season before losing a game in the finals, but recovered to win 12-8 over the Process duo of Brian Root and Ryan Van Horn in the bitter cold of competition that lasted until 7 p.m. Matthew Root and Garret Nicodemus took third place.
Nearly 39 students competed in the miniature golf tournament held Sept. 22-23 at the Two Tees course on Sullivan Trail in Forks Township. Jackie Golden of Easton Hall and Sarah Kolb of PT Farinon joined forces to leave the rest of the women’s field in the dust, finishing with a round of 50, with Jessie Abel and Victoria Picone of Tri-Delt in second place at 56. On the men’s side, Sean McMonagle and John Sullivan of KDR lost to Jonathan Gross and Mike Winters of Zeta Psi in two of the three earlier rounds, but edged them in the championship by one putt on the last hole, finishing with a score of 43. Kevin Colantropo and Dave Recco of FIJI finished third.
Zeta Psi’s Screaming Larvae outslugged the Rough Riders of Ruef Hall, 7-2, in the championship of the Whiffle Ball tournament, which was held Sept. 18-19 on March Field. The Rough Riders made it to the title game despite a loss in the quarterfinals. A combined PT Farinon and Conway House team earned third place.
International Students Association won the ping pong title with undefeated players in both the men’s and women’s divisions. Usman Khan accomplished that feat at Kirby Sports Center while going through two pools of players in a 30-player field. Azad Assadipour finished second. Evgenia Nikolova bested Gina Lamendella of Tri-Delt on the women’s side. The action took place Sept. 15-19.
Experience gave way to youth in the croquet tournament, where first-year student Josh Goldstein of PT Farinon wielded the mightiest mallet as the undefeated champion and last year’s defending champ lost early. Mark Adamick of Watson Hall earned second place and Luke Landherr was third. Kelly Barrows of Alpha Gamma Delta emerged from the losers bracket to take the women’s title, with sorority sister Amy Goldstein in second place and Louise Boudart of Tri-Delt in third.
George Taylor and Molefi Asante of Brothers of Lafayette fulfilled their hoop dreams for a second year, winning 7-5 in the finals to take the men’s two-on-two basketball tournament again. Although they went undefeated, they just squeaked by Ryan Van Horn and Brian Root of Process, 7-6, in the opening round of the tournament, held Sept. 4 in Kirby Sports Center. Second place went to Dave Homsher and Jim Sarruda of Watson Hall, followed by John Gross and Mike Bohr of Zeta Psi.
