A film screening, performances, a fashion show, and presentations will mark “The Week of French” at Lafayette Nov. 4-11.

Sponsored by the French Club, all events are free and include light French cuisine.

“It’s an opportunity to let people experience a variety of different facets of French culture,” says Mary Toulouse, director of the language laboratory. “It’s for Francophiles as well as those who want to learn about another culture.”

The celebration will begin 7 p.m. today with a screening of the film L’Auberge Espagnole (The Spanish Inn) on the French floor in Keefe Hall. The movie involves a group of international students who stay at an inn together while studying abroad and sharing intercultural experiences.

Diane Shaw, college archivist, will give a talk on “The Marquis de Lafayette — Treasures from the Skillman Library Special Collection” and display related illustrations noon Wednesday, Nov. 5, in Pardee Hall room 419.

French-speaking students will share their stories at “Experience La Francophonie” noon Friday, Nov. 7, in Pardee Hall room 419.

The Farinon Center’s Limburg Theater will host “French Culture in Performance” noon Monday, Nov. 10, which will include poetry readings and a short theatrical presentation.

The week will end with “Désilé de Mode,” a French fashion show, 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, in the Farinon Center Snack Bar. Students will model period pieces from the Renaissance, Empire, and style moderne, including sports fashion. Designer examples will include authentic pieces and copies from the collections of Coco Chanel, Dior, Lacosse, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton and Sonia Delaunay. Toulouse will wear an item designed by the French artist Sonia Delaunay a century ago. Desserts will be served at the event.
