Three new professors in the chemistry, computer science, and geology & environmental geosciences departments will discuss their research 12:15 p.m. Monday in Gagnon Lecture Hall, Hugel Science Center room 100.
The event is sponsored by the Lafayette chapter of Sigma Xi, the international honor society for scientific and engineering research. Lunch will be provided free of charge to students and for $3 to faculty and staff.
Tina Huang, assistant professor of chemistry, served as postdoctoral associate and research chemist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology from 1999 until joining the Lafayette faculty this fall. She received her Ph.D. in analytical chemistry (with bioanalytical emphasis) from the University of Kansas in 1998. She also holds a B.S. in chemistry from Bethel College, Kansas.
Jeffrey O. Pfaffman, assistant professor of computer science, earned a Ph.D. in computer science from Wayne State University this year. He also earned an M.S. and taught several courses at Wayne State. He holds a bachelor of applied arts in computer science/broadcasting and cinematic arts from Central Michigan University.
Robin Ten Brink, visiting assistant professor of geology and environmental geosciences, earned her Ph.D. from University of Nevada at Reno. Her special interests are petrology, geochemistry, and geochronolgy of basin and range igneous rocks, and their relation to economic mineral deposits. Her courses this year will be From Fire to Ice, An Introduction to Geology; Earth and Planetary Materials; and a Values and Sciences/Technology class, “Economic Resources and Society.”
