Susan Angus, executive director of the Commission on Voluntary Service in New York, discussed short-term (summer, semester) and longer-term (year or more) opportunities for community service in this country and abroad noon today in Interfaith Chapel, Hogg Hall. Lunch was provided.

The Commission on Voluntary Service and Action publishes Invest Yourself, a handbook of opportunities for service throughout the world.

Other events sponsored by the Chaplain’s Office will be held this week in Interfaith Chapel, Hogg Hall:

12:15 p.m. Thursday: “The Art of Dialogue.” History and religious studies major Sarah Bassin ’04(Overland Park, Kan.), who built bridges between people of different religions in Chicago this summer through a fellowship from the American Jewish Committee, will lead an discussion of interfaith dialogue as a part of ComeUnity Week.The event is cosponsored by the religious studies department.

4:30 p.m. Thursday: Interfaith Iftar. The Muslim Student Association invites the campus to share in a meal breaking the day’s fast during Ramadan. The traditions and beliefs of Ramadan will be explained.

Noon Friday: “An Open Forum on Religious Views of Homosexuality,” a ComeUnity Week program. Religious leaders will discuss what their faith community is saying and doing about homosexuality. Lunch may be brought or purchased for $3.
