Sheila Handy, assistant professor of economics and business, gave a talk about managing finances after college Wednesday evening in the Kirby Hall of Civil Rights auditorium.

“Tonight’s lecture will cover decisions that need to be made shortly after college graduation, such as withholding allowances, 401(k) plans, and leasing versus buying a car,” she said before the event.

Free and open to the campus community, the talk was sponsored by a new organization, Lafayette College Students in Free Enterprise, which arose from the CIRCLE Entrepreneurship Series organized by students. Handy is co-moderator of both groups and faculty adviser to the student chapter of the Omicron Delta Epsilon economics honor society.

A CPA, Handy teaches the courses Financial Accounting, Financial Theory and Analysis, Taxation, and Corporate Finance. In addition to a Ph.D. from New York University, she holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in taxation from Hofstra University. Her special interests are financial accounting and tax accounting.
