The Pi Beta Phi sorority and Kappa Delta Rho fraternity will host the 25th annual Dance Marathon 5 p.m. Friday through 5 p.m. Saturday at Kamine Gymnasium in Kirby Sports Center.

Members of the groups will dance to raise donations from sponsors. A raffle and a lip-sync contest 2 p.m. Saturday are open to the public for a $2 admission charge. The event also will feature bands, karaoke, dance lessons, guest DJ’s, three hours of “Dancing through the Decades,” and a performance by The Chorduroys, Lafayette’s male a cappella group.

All proceeds will go to Spring Garden Children’s Center and the Children’s Home of Easton.

“Last year, $6,000 was donated to these two charities and we are hoping that this year will be an even bigger success,” says biology major Kari Horowitz ’04 (Hillsborough, N.J.), event co-chair along with biology major Caitlyn Herman ’04 (Allentown, Pa.) and Mark Slobodien ’04 (Metuchen, N.J.), a double major in English and government & law. “I believe Dance Marathon has become such a popular fundraiser because it gives the entire community the opportunity to get involved and participate for a good cause that benefits the Easton community.”

Pi Phi and Kappa Delta Rho members are responsible for collecting donations from students at Lafayette as well as people in the community. About half of the total donations typically come from Pi Phi and Kappa Delta Rho alumni. Other funds have been donated in past years by local businesses and restaurants, faculty and alumni, and various Lafayette sororities and fraternities. In addition, local restaurants and businesses contribute food and raffle prizes, respectively.
