Gilbert’s will host a new Lafayette Activities Forum event tonight, Fall Fest, “a full night of fun with live music, cash prizes, and free apple cider, pumpkin and apple pie.”
Victoria Picone ’05 (Center Valley, Pa.), an economics & business major and executive chair for Gilbert’s programming, says the event contrasts with the smaller acts usually booked for Gilbert’s.
“We wanted to try something different,” she says. “It could become an annual event depending on its success.”
Fall Fest begins with a performance by pianist Jennifer Marie at 8 p.m. Her sound is described as dark, edgy, pop-rock. On a U.S. college tour this fall, Marie has been characterized as having “a beautiful voice I don’t see how this young lady can survive in a world of manufactured divas and soul-less harlequins.”
Following a Bingo intermission from 9:30-10 p.m., Jonah Cohen will take the stage. He describes himself as a “nostalgiaholic” and has been compared to John Mayer due to his “fond appreciation for analyzing the past.” Cohen says his songs are based on some initial powerful feeling.
“I guess I focus on the past and especially my childhood because I don’t want to forget those feelings of being carefree and living without super-high expectations,” he says.
Fall Fest will conclude after a second round of Bingo, which begins at 10:30 p.m.
Picone says she and co-chair Kim Nieskens ’07 (East Northport, N.Y.) picked Marie because of her diverse sound and Cohen because he would appeal to a larger audience.
