An Egyptian papyrus from Skillman Library’s special collections is being restored by the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts in Philadelphia.
The papyrus was adhered to a thick pane of glass in a number of areas and had major damage, including a number of tears and cracks. Staff at CCAHA have removed the papyrus from the glass and consolidated it. New housing is being prepared, and the papyrus should be returned to the College soon.
This work is the “featured treatment” on the Conservation Center’s home page. The web site includes photos of the papyrus as well as a photo of students in the Ancient Art class taught by Ida Sinkevic, associate professor of art, in the CCAHA lab in October.
