PAUL ROBESON CONFERENCE SET FOR APRIL 7-9
The first conference in the series “Conversations of National Importance” is set for April 7-9 with a focus on Paul Robeson—actor, activist, scholar, athlete, world citizen, and concert artist. The event features scholarly presentations, a film festival, and performances. NASA AWARDS GRANT AND SATELLITE TIME TO STARK FOR STUDY OF BINARY STARS

MARSIT ’00 RECEIVES GRANT FROM HARVARD FOR CANCER RESEARCH
Harvard School of Public Health has awarded Carmen J. Marsit ’00a postdoctoral fellowship in toxicology and environmental health sciences, which will fund his continuing research on molecular alterations in lung and skin cancer. A biochemistry graduate, Marsit earned the American Association for Cancer Research-AFLAC Scholar-in-Training Award.

MOTT ’07 CONTINUES RESEARCH ON NEVADA’S CENTRAL GREAT BASIN
Andrew Mott ’07 is studying this environmentally sensitive area as an EXCEL Scholar with Dru Germanoski, VanArtsdalen ’35 Professor of Geology and Environmental Geosciences and head of the department. He gathered data about wet meadow systems on site last June.

ABBAZIA ’05 PARTNERS WITH SCHROTT ’85 TO RESEARCH DRUG WITHDRAWAL
In a summer project provided through the Lafayette Alumni Research Network, Jaime Abbazia ’05 conducted intensive neuroscience research with Lisa Schrott ’87,assistant pharmacology professor, Louisiana State University Health Science Center.
Schrott’s research interests include behavioral, endocrine, and immune consequences of prenatal drug exposure. Abbazia helped to design and pilot test a procedure.

HONORS POUR IN FOR PATRIOT LEAGUE CHAMPION FOOTBALL LEOPARDS
The football team made history with the program’s first-ever appearance in the postseason against defending National Champion Delaware in NCAA Division I-AA Playoffs. Headlines continue with cocaptain Stephen Bono ’05 earning Academic All-America honors, record-setting tailback Joe McCourt ’05 earning first-team All-America honors, and head coach Frank Tavani being rewarded with a unanimous selection as Patriot League Coach of the Year and a contract extension through 2010.
