At its annual meeting, Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Wellesley, Mass., appointed Hope A. Aldrich ’73 to its board of overseers.

The board’s responsibilities include fundraising for the hospital and lending advice on its daily operations. Aldrich is looking forward to using her managerial experience.

“It is a wonderful community hospital,” she says. “They deliver terrific service, and I want to give back by helping them succeed.”

Aldrich is president and CEO of Eastern Insurance Group, LLC. Previously, she worked in senior positions at Liberty Mutual and AON Insurance.

Aldrich also is a board member of Greater Boston YMCA, where she was formerly chair, and is on the board of corporators at Eastern Bank. Aldrich believes that it is essential for professionals to give back to their surrounding communities.

“It’s tremendously important,” she says. “We [Eastern Insurance, LLC] give ten percent of our profits to a charitable trust and we give back in the form of community donations. It’s simply the right thing to do.”

A psychology graduate, Aldrich says that Lafayette’s career services helped her discover that psychology was not an area she wanted to pursue. Many companies she interviewed with discriminated against women.

“I never wanted to be dependent on anything other than what I did,” she says. “So, it was a negative experience that turned into a positive one.”
