Electrical engineering graduate Scott Fullerton ’87 has accepted a position as operating partner with Fulham & Co., which acquires middle-market companies in cooperation with company management.

His role is to work closely with company presidents to support their efforts and ensure that short-term and long-term goals are met. He also evaluates acquisition candidates.

“In this position, I have a very wide range of responsibilities,” says Fullerton. “I use my background to support companies in many different industries. I work with the companies to support their efforts in new product development, expanded distribution, lean manufacturing, and strategic acquisitions.”

Previously, Fullerton worked as chief operating officer of Florida Tile Industries, Inc., a distributor and manufacturer of ceramic wall and floor tile. From 1997-2003, he was president of AMF Reece Inc., a manufacturer of sewing equipment with overseas manufacturing and sales in over 80 countries. He joined that company as a plant manager in 1992 and was promoted to product manger in 1993, director of marketing in 1995, and president in 1997. From 1987-90 he worked at Westinghouse Electric Corporation as a radar and electro-optic systems engineer.

“Lafayette helped prepare me for these roles in two ways,” he says. “First, I received a very well rounded education outside of engineering. Second, my engineering classes not only gave me a technical understanding, but a problem-solving process and a structured way of thinking that I use every day.”

Warren Guy, professor emeritus and former head of electrical engineering, had an important influence on Fullerton.

“He took very difficult subjects and forced the students to translate the theory into real-world situations,” he says. “While most of the professors did this in some form, Professor Guy’s style uniquely challenged the students’ process as well as their understanding of the theory.”

Fullerton received a masters of business administration from Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at University of Virginia in 1992.
