I was saddened to hear of Professor [Marcantoine] Crespi’s passing in June. I was one of the lucky students who spent a semester abroad in Dijon, France with Professor Crespi in 1995.
I can’t even begin to tell you all the wonderful things we did in the few short months that we were there. We visited the famous chateaux of the Loire Valley, toured the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, took classes exclusively in French, studied French music, film, and news, and explored all the nooks and crannies of Dijon.
Although we stayed with host families, Professor Crespi would have us over for meals at his residence in Dijon. In that way we were able to connect with our fellow students and Professor Crespi as we discussed our time in France. He even included my parents and brother in the meal when they came to visit me at the end of the semester.
Professor Crespi loved France and Dijon. He was always writing poems in French and wandering the streets and woods of Dijon to reflect and create. It is sad to think that no future students will be able to visit Dijon with Professor Crespi as I did, and share in his enthusiasm and joie de vivre.
