The economics and business department invites the campus to attend a talk by Ray Foley, who will discuss his involvement in the start-up of BARTENDERMagazine and a consulting business as part of the CIRCLE Lecture Series. The free public lecture will be held 7:30 p.m. April 18 in Kirby Hall of Civil Rights, room 104.
CIRCLE stands for Creative, Innovative, Resourceful, Charismatic, Lucky, and Energetic, all qualities required by an entrepreneur. Now in its sixth year, the series facilitates two lectures each semester by speakers who have started their own business or were involved in turning an existing business around.
“Students benefit from learning firsthand the joys and pitfalls of starting and running a business from securing office space and telephone service, and discovering affordable but effective ways to advertise a new business,” notes Sheila Handy, assistant professor of economics and business and CIRCLE Lecture Series adviser.
Economics and business major and CIRCLE Lecture Series Committee Chairperson Steve Caruso ’06 (Middletown, N.J.) adds, “The lectures give students a chance to learn about opportunities in business that are not as widely discussed in the curriculum.”
The program will conclude with “Money Matters,” a talk on personal finance after college for graduating seniors, April 28.
Previous lectures includedDr. Hal Singer of Criterion Economics who spoke on the starting of his economics-consulting firm, and three Easton business owners who discussed their experiences founding Lipkins Furniture, Genesis Bicycles, and Cosmic Cup.
