The Class of 2006 earmarked its senior class gift for stipends enabling students to serve internships in nonprofit fields. Students benefiting this summer and their internship hosts were history major Joseph Costello ’07 (Windsor, N.Y) — New York State Attorney General’s Office, Consumer Fraud division; psychology and government & law double major Stephanie Mishik ’07 (Mantua, N.J.) — Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey; math and psychology double major Leah Schachar ’08 (Dallas, Texas) — Julie Zadow ’92, vice president of events, Yankee Group, a Boston information technology research and consulting firm; psychology and religious studies double major Jackie Vazquez ’07 (Brooklyn, N.Y.) — Radnor Hotel in St. David’s, Pa., arranged by Lou Prevost ’71, vice president and general manager; and neuroscience major Carey Wilson ’07 (Hamilton, N.Y.) — David Albala ’78, professor of urology and director of minimally invasive surgery at Duke University School of Medicine.
“Overall, this summer was a very valuable experience for me,” wrote Wilson in an thank-you letter to the Class of 2006. “As I was also preparing for the MCATs (Medical College Admissions Test) this summer, I had a very full plate. I would not have been able to devote so much time to my internship and to studying if I had not received your financial support, since I would have had to pick up another job to help pay for the expenses. For your support in helping me achieve my life aspirations I am incredibly grateful. This summer would not have been such a success without you, so I thank you one hundred times over.”
“Making your class gift an internship stipend was a great way to make sure that you left a lasting impact on the lives of the students behind you and I know that it was greatly appreciated by all who received one,” stated Vasquez in her thank-you letter. “I look forward to continuing this tradition with my senior class.”
