Frederick J. Quivey, Lafayette’s vice president for business affairs and treasurer since 1991, has announced that he will retire on June 30, 2007.
“As the latest of three Lafayette presidents whom Fred has served, I am deeply grateful for his commitment to the College in 15 years as a member of its senior administration, and for his many significant accomplishments in capital planning and construction, plant operations, endowment administration, community relations, and other areas, all of which were instrumental in advancing the College,” said President Daniel Weiss. “I look forward to working with Fred during the remainder of his service at Lafayette. His commitment and expertise will be missed greatly.”
Quivey is responsible for financial accounting and reporting, budgeting, risk management, endowment administration, finance, plant operations and capital planning and construction, purchasing and stores, auxiliary enterprises, real estate, public safety and industrial hygiene, and space management.
He produced a facilities master plan that addresses the physical plant needs of the campus over the next 30 years. He has overseen more than $150 million in construction and renovation projects, many made possible by the $213 million Lafayette Leadership Campaign, that have virtually transformed the campus. He implemented a successful strategy to protect the College’s property in Forks Township, including the Metzgar Athletic Campus, at the time of a proposed expansion of Easton Airport.
Quivey also has overseen Lafayette’s acquisition of properties, and plans for their development, in the North Third St. area at the base of College Hill. He provides leadership in initiatives for Easton’s revitalization as secretary and audit committee chair of the Greater Easton Development Partnership.
Quivey has held leadership positions in the National Association of College and University Business Officers and is active in local community service organizations, including the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley, Bushkill Stream Conservancy, and Weller Center for Health Education. He chairs the United Way’s investment committee and previously served as its treasurer and administrative committee chair.
Quivey came to Lafayette from Bowdoin College, where he was director of budgets. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine and an MBA from the University of New Hampshire.
After serving an active tour of duty as a lieutenant in the Army, he was a consultant to the National Heart, Blood, and Lung Institute; held various positions at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, including assistant dean of engineering for administration; and was senior manager in the management consulting division of KPMG Peat Marwick before moving to Bowdoin in 1987.
