Students are invited to support Angels 4 Children Foundation and Children’s Theater Workshops through the “Alumni/Professor Auction” 8-10 p.m. Tuesday, April 3 in FarinonCollegeCenter.

Tickets will be on sale weekdays noon-1 p.m. starting Monday, March 26 in Farinon. Students may purchase five raffle tickets for $4 for a chance to win a dinner with a member of the Lafayette faculty or a participating alumnus/a. Students may drop off their tickets personally or they can be designated to a certain professor or alumnus/a at the time of purchase.

Auction organizer and founder of Angels 4 Children Foundation, Kiira Elizabeht Benzing ’07(Ridgewood, N.J.) believes the auction will benefit everyone involved. The nonprofit organization helps underprivileged youth achieve their scholastic and professional aspirations.

“I founded Angels 4 Children Foundation with three colleagues in high school and it is our belief that children can help children,” says Benzing, a double major in French and performance studies. “Most of our fundraisers include participants from age 8-18. This event is geared toward giving college students the opportunity to connect with some of the most distinguished alumni and professors from Lafayette.”

Participating alumni include Marilyn Balamaci ’74, senior editor of PARADE magazine; Jarrod Spencer ’96, psychologist; Sylvia Daniels Weaver ’75, Johnson & Johnson; Patricia Price ’75, CARE; Trustee Edward Ahart ’69; and Rebecca Price Janney ’80, author and historian.

Confirmed participating professors include Rosie Bukics, dean of studies and Jones Professor of Economics and Business; Andrew Smith, assistant professor of English and chair of American Studies; and Sharon Jones, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering and chair of A.B. engineering.

Participating restaurants include The River Grille, Ocean, Julianna’s, The Union Station Grill, Moricci’s, The Easton Coffee Exchange, and more.

“One of my goals is for education on three levels,” says Benzing. “Alumni and professors have the opportunity to connect with the current generation of students at Lafayette, Lafayette students have the chance to learn about the career decisions made by accomplished professionals on an individual basis, and the youngest generation – the students of inner-city schools from Easton to Harlem – have the chance of reaching for their dreams of higher education.”
