Students, faculty, staff, and alumni will once again join together to help community service organizations in Easton and cities across the country April 18 for Lafapalooza 2009: Lafayette’s National Day of Service.
This year, members of the campus community will have the opportunity to participate in service activities with Easton’s Habitat for Humanity, the Boys and Girls Club of Easton, the Weed and Seed program, the Easton Ambassadors, and the Children’s Home of Easton.
Hosted by the College’s Landis Community Outreach Center, approximately 75 students will be part of the local effort. The team is led by Michelle Swick ’09 (Scotch Plains, N.J.), Alejandro Sandoval ’10 (Brussels, Belgium), Hannah Klein ’11 (Wilmington, Del.), Julia Tanenbaum ’12 (Mount Kisco, N.Y.), and Ashley Koble ’11 (Levittown, Pa.).
“While many of the Landis Programs require an on-going weekly commitment, Lafapalooza provides opportunities for students to volunteer for a few hours doing a project that our community partners might not be able to accomplish otherwise,” says Amber Zuber, assistant director of the Landis Center. “We hope this will increase awareness about other Landis programs as well as provide service to the community at the same time.”
Seven regional alumni chapters will also volunteer in their communities during Lafapalooza. There will be service projects held through the chapters in Philadelphia, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Greater Boston, the Florida Gulf Coast, and the Lehigh Valley.
