Communities: Easton premieres at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 1
Vibrant energy – part of Easton’s character since it first became a commercial and cultural hub in the 1800s – pulses in today Centre Square and elsewhere in the riverfront city. A new documentary from PBS 39, Public Television’s affiliate in the Lehigh Valley, highlights Lafayette’s home.

Easton is a city of 30,000 people located on the eastern edge of the Lehigh Valley, a metropolitan area with a population of 800,000. Founded in 1752 by Thomas Penn, the son of William Penn – the founder of Pennsylvania – the city was one of the country’s earliest industrial centers.
Picturesque downtown Easton includes three national historic districts. Centre Square features specialty shops, restaurants, coffee shops, art galleries, natural foods, and crafts boutiques. The historic State Theatre Center for the Arts features plays, concerts, and dance.
New York is only 70 miles east and Philadelphia 60 miles south. Lafayette’s location provides students easy access to all the professional opportunities – and educational and cultural resources – these cities offer.
