The Peace Candle, carriage rides, and annual contests highlight the season

The Easton community celebrates the holiday season with many annual traditions including the lighting of the Peace Candle, carriage rides, and annual contests.

For every holiday season since 1951, the Soldier’s and Sailor’s Monument in Centre Square has been transformed into the Peace Candle. At 106 feet, the landmark serves as the world’s tallest non-wax candle. The lighting of the candle is celebrated each year with music, caroling, food, and special events.

Old-fashioned horse-drawn carriage rides have also become an Easton tradition. The rides, which provide a tour of the historic downtown, take place each Friday from 5-9 p.m. through Dec. 26. Tickets are available in advance at Just Around the Corner Gallery, 5A N. Bank Street, or can be obtained by calling the Easton Main Street Initiative at (610) 330-9942.
This year’s holiday contest is the Winter Wonderland “Win the Window” Contest. Participants can win the local merchandise in the Winter Wonderland Window at 44 S. Third St. (next to Mex-Tex Trio). By visiting the participating businesses, contestants are asked to find out the retail value of the items on display and fill in those amounts on games cards. Game cards can be found on the Main Street web site, and the contest runs through Sunday, Dec. 21.
