Association of Science-Technology Centers honors the Easton museum for its hands-on history

The National Canal Museum in Easton has received the Roy L. Shafer Leading Edge Award from the Association of Science-Technology Centers.
The ASTC, which includes more than 540 members in 40 countries, recognized the museum for its innovative canal exhibit that offers visitors a hands-on history lesson.

The museum is the only one in the country dedicated to telling the story of America’s historic towpath canals. It features four galleries filled with hands-on exhibits, such as a working canal model, that educate and entertain parents and children alike.

The museum used a $1.6 million National Science Foundation grant and about $500,000 in private donations to completely overhaul its exhibits in 2006. More than 456,000 patrons have visited the exhibits since they opened.
