President Alison Byerly and Provost Abu Rizvi recently announced three faculty promotions. (These are in addition to appointments announced in the spring.)
Markus Dubischar, associate professor of foreign languages and literatures, has been named Charles Elliott Scholar of Latin and Greek. An internationally respected classicist, Dubischar is a talented and creative teacher who incorporates a variety of pedagogical techniques, including trips to museums and theater productions, to make the classics come alive for students. Lisa Gabel, associate professor of psychology, has been named William C. ’67 and Pamela Rappolt Scholar in Neuroscience. This recognition honors Gabel’s cutting-edge, multidisciplinary research on the genetic basis of developmental dyslexia and her skills as an effective and challenging teacher who provides engaging, interactive learning environments for her students. Daniel Sabatino, associate professor of mechanical engineering, has been named Robert W. Adenbaum Scholar in Entrepreneurial Studies. This recognizes Sabatino’s work as a scholar who produces complex and elegant experimental studies in fluid mechanics with a focus on fluid flows and structures. Sabatino also has a deep commitment to student learning and has played a central role in developing and forwarding the idea that students will benefit from having a particular attitude or disposition when they face obstacles in the classroom or lab.
