Annual Peace Candle Lighting will be Nov. 23
The Easton community will celebrate the beginning of the holiday season with the Peace Candle Lighting in Centre Square from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23. Local shops and churches will provide a number of free activities and refreshments, including concerts, holiday sing-a-longs, photos with Santa Claus, and holiday contests.
Easton’s Soldier’s and Sailor’s Monument has been transformed into the candle every holiday season since 1951. At 106 feet, the landmark serves as the world’s tallest non-wax candle.
Easton Main Street Initiative and the Easton Holiday Committee, who are both sponsoring the evening of events, describe the candle lighting as “a celebration of commitment to peace and understanding throughout the community and the world.”
Along with the official candle lighting at 7:15 p.m., Friday will kick off Easton Main Street Initiative’s “Find the Gingerbread Man” holiday contest in downtown Easton. Ceramic gingerbread men created by Aura Ceramics will be hidden in shops, galleries, and restaurants throughout the city.
Game cards can be picked up in the Main Street Gingerbread Tent during the lighting celebration or at the participating businesses throughout the holiday season. The gingerbread man himself will be on hand to greet participants on Friday. The contest runs through Dec. 31. For more information, call 610-330-9942.
The Santa’s Beard Look-Alike Contest, sponsored by Partyology & Party Store, will also take place on Friday at 6 p.m. at Suddenly Samantha, 200 Northampton Street. The best Santa look-alike with real hair will receive a $50 gift certificate to Partyology and the best artificial look-alike will receive a $25 gift certificate to Partyology. Santa suits are not required, but are encouraged. Contact Elizabeth Judge Wyant at Partyology for more information at 610-330-9535.
