International Affairs major Alyson Gross '04 (Killingworth, Conn.) learned first-hand about the publishing business through a summer-long internship at The Lyons Press in Guilford, Conn.

Gross discovered the opportunity through the Job Vault provided by Lafayette's Career Services. At Lyons Press, she reviewed manuscripts, wrote for catalogs, assisted in editing manuscripts, and made book presentations to the entire editorial staff.

“Through this experience, I learned much about the publishing business,” she says. “I am still deciding my future career plans. This internship was an excellent opportunity for me to learn about how a publishing business or any business operates.”

“My experiences at Lafayette have helped me become a more sophisticated thinker and problem solver,” adds Lyons. “I have benefited greatly from having accessible professors available to answer any questions.”

Lyons is a resident adviser, Writing Associate, and member of Field Hockey Club and Alpha Phi sorority. Last year, she spent the summer studying in Bonn, Germany, and in January, she served an externship with IBM in Washington, D.C. She also has participated in International Affairs Club, Rugby Club, and Crew Club.
