The Marquis Players raised $3,500 for six local charities through their production of the musical comedy Sugar last month.

“I think the show went amazingly well,” says director Rachel Korpanty ’03, a history major from Summerville, S.C. “I am so proud of all of my actors, technicians, staff, and musicians. This Marquis Players production was the best prepared and most exciting show I’ve ever worked on, and I had a tremendous amount of fun.”

Proceeds went to Safe Harbor and the Third Street Alliance for Women and Children, two homeless shelters that provide other programs for their residents; Turning Point of Lehigh Valley, which provides shelter and support services to victims of domestic violence; Habitat for Humanity of Lehigh Valley; Four Diamonds Fund of Penn State Children’s Hospital; and SPCA of Northampton County.

The 18 musicals produced by the Marquis Players have raised about $67,000 for charity.

Sugar, a musical adaptation of the Marilyn Monroe blockbuster Some Like it Hot, made its debut on Broadway in 1972.
