Music and dance, food and drinks, art, activities, and more will be part of the second annual Block pARTy 11 a.m. Saturday, leading up to the 1 p.m. kickoff of the football team’s game against Princeton.
The event will be held on Parsons Street between Hamilton and McCartney, opposite the Fisher Field entrance.
Music and dance performances will be held on two stages:
11:00–11:15 a.m. Soulfege (mixed a cappella)
11:15–11:25 a.m. civil engineering major Dan O’Neil ’06 (Lincoln, R.I.) & electrical and computer engineering major Amanda Driscoll ‘06 (Princeton Junction, N.J.)
11:25–11:40 a.m. Cadence (female a cappella)
11:40–11:55 a.m. Lafayette Dancers
11:50 a.m.–12:05 p.m. The Chorduroys (male a cappella)
12:05–12:20 p.m. Jadrien’s Crew (dancers)
12:15–12:30 p.m. Pep Band
12:30–12:45 p.m. Hispanic Society (dancers)
12:40–12:55 p.m. Tribal Beasts (drummers)
Gourmet sandwiches, kabobs, and more from The Quadrant and Almond Tree Manor will be available for purchase. Students with Lafayette ID will receive a $6 food voucher.
Exhibitions and sales of art, from photography and painting to jewelry and fashion design, will feature works by Terese Brown ’07 (Bronx, N.Y), biology major Davita Crawford ’05 (West Orange, N.J.), anthropology and sociology major Cheryl James ’04, art and English double major Jeb Madigan ’04 (Binghamton, N.Y.), art major Jesse Morgan ’05 (Amherst, Mass.), art and psychology double major Julie Phelan ’05, and art and economics & business double major Danielle Truppo ’04 (West Long Branch, N.J.). In addition, CDs and posters from Cadence, The Chorduroys, and the campus band Not Today will be on sale.
Art to play with and purchase will include a giant magnetic poetry board, custom buttons, henna tattoos, spin art, candles, a cartoon artist, sand art, hair braiding, face painting, arts of Latin America, a graffiti wall, bracelets, personalized stenciled t-shirts, vegan cookies, and recycled blank books.
The party also will include free bottled water, lollipops with blood-alcohol content cards and information about responsible alcohol use, free Rita’s Italian Ice (while supplies last), Polaroid portraits with the ’Pard, a strolling magician, Balloon Creations by Stephen, and a free raffle of arts and sports items, such as tickets, t-shirts, and more.
Organizational displays will be presented by Association of Black Collegians, the Alumni Association, Association for Lafayette Women, Arts Society, CHILL, College Republicans, Counseling Center, Equestrian Club, Hispanic Society of Lafayette, Lafayette Activities Forum, Lafayette Association of Free Trade Associates, Lafayette Environmental Awareness and Protection, Marquis literary magazine, Marquis Players, Nia, Questioning Established Sexual Taboos, Residence Hall Council, Student Government, and Students for Social Justice.
