Punk rock and chamber orchestra concerts, a hypnotist, and screenings of the film Radio are among the entertainment options on campus this weekend.

Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, known for its excellence and for performing without a conductor, will give a concert 8 p.m. today at the Williams Center for the Arts. Composer Paul Seiko Chihara will give a pre-concert talk at 7 p.m.

Hypnotist Dale K will present his act, which relies on audience participation, at Colton Chapel 9 p.m. today. According to sponsor Lafayette Activities Forum,“Volunteers will be hypnotized to open their imaginations and create a visual release of hilarious talents into the spotlight. Opera singers, the Crocodile Hunter, sushi chefs, and a foreign hot dog vendor all on one stage.” Admission is free.

Lafayette Activities Forum also will bring four local punk rock bands – The Stand In, Monroe, Icatchbombs, and Everfall — to the Farinon Center Atrium 8 p.m. Saturday for a free concert.

Radio, a film based on real events, will be screened by LAF 7 and 10 p.m. today and Saturday, and 10 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday, in the Farinon Center’s Limburg Theater. Tickets cost $2. The film is rated PG for mild language and thematic elements.

The film covers the decades-long story of the relationship between a prominent high school football coach (Ed Harris) in a small South Carolina town and the illiterate, mentally-challenged man nicknamed Radio (Cuba Gooding Jr.) whom he mentors, who before that had always been the target of jokes and teasing by the community. Although their friendship raises some eyebrows at first, Radio’s growth under the coach’s guidance ultimately inspires the local townsfolk, from 1964, when he first starts helping the Hanna Yellow Jackets football team, through a long career with the school that continues today.
