Community service will be the theme this weekend as the Lafayette and Easton communities join together for Lafapalooza.

The fourth annual event boasts almost 100 volunteers who will be participating in 11 projects Friday and Saturday at various locations in Easton. Students, faculty, and members of Greek organizations, student clubs, and sports teams will all be donating their time.

The Landis Community Outreach Center is sponsoring the event, which is being organized by Nathan Parker ’08 (Milford N.H.), a biology major, and Jonathan Farrar ’07 (Alexandria, Va.), a physics and mathematics major.

For more information, or to volunteer, contact the center at (610) 330-5553 or email the student organizers.

Volunteers can tutor students at Paxinosa Elemementary School; cook a meal at Safe Harbor; paint murals at Union Community Center or Easton Nursing Center; help with general yard work and cleaning at the Newman House, SPCA animal shelter, Third Street Alliance, and Firth Youth Center; work with children at the Easton Area Community Center, or participate in various activities at Arc of Northampton County (a resource center for individuals with mental disabilities) and Salvation Army.

“It’s a great opportunity for Lafayette students, faculty, staff, and alumni to serve the surrounding community through a wide variety of projects,” says Parker. “It increases awareness of the community’s needs and the many service opportunities available through the Landis Community Outreach Center.”

Sponsors for Lafapalooza are Salvatore’s Pizza, the Newman Association, H.C. Kissiah Student Life Fund, Delta Gamma, Delta Delta Delta, Zeta Psi, Delta Upsilon, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Kappa Delta Rho, Alpha Phi, IFC, and Student Government.
