J. Peter Simon ’75, a member of Lafayette’s Board of Trustees, was presented with the Dean’s Medal Award by the University of Rochester’s William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration at the school’s 25th anniversary celebration.

Simon is co-chairman of William E. Simon and Sons, LLC, Morristown, N.J., and its investment group and leads the firm’s New Jersey office. He co-founded Simon and Sons with his late father, former Treasury Secretary and College emeritus trustee William E. Simon ’52, and his brother, Bill Simon Jr.

Simon has played an integral role in advancing the vision of Rochester’s Simon School. The chair of its advisory committee, he has funded Simon Leadership Fellowships for more than 30 exceptional students who demonstrate a record of community involvement, entrepreneurship, and leadership. He also counsels students and graduates, provides internship and placement opportunities, and helps recruit new students.

The school honored Simon at its anniversary celebration Jan. 19 in New York City. Special remarks were made by Joel Seligman, Rochester’s president, and Mark Zupan, dean of the Simon School.

Simon was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2001. He is chair of the Committee on Investments and serves on the Executive Committee and Student Life Committee. He is also a member of Marquis Parents Council. He and his wife, Janet Mauriello Simon ’75, are members of Société d’Honneur. Simon’s, a student eatery in the Sullivan Lane residential complex, is named in recognition of their generosity. They are the parents of Emily ’11, Timothy ’14, Peter Jr., and Cameron.

A psychology graduate, Simon attended New York University’s Graduate School of Business. He is a member of the New Jersey State Board of Education and chair of the board of Morristown Memorial Health Foundation. He also serves on the boards of Covenant House New Jersey and Puck Holdings, which owns the New Jersey Devils.
