Vice President Joe Biden
Because of a change in Vice President Joe Biden’s schedule, his upcoming address at Lafayette will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, in Kirby Sports Center, and not on Wednesday, April 25, as originally scheduled.
All ticket orders that have been received since ordering opened last week will be applied to the new date, May 2. Please note the updated information below about picking up tickets.
Members of the College community (students, faculty, staff, retirees, alumni, and parents) may order tickets online at www.goleopardstickets.com. Students may order one ticket each. Faculty, staff, retirees, alumni, and parents may order up to two tickets per person. Alumni and parents should call the Office of Alumni Affairs, (610) 330-5040, for additional information about ordering.
On Saturday, April 7, tickets will be made available to the general public via online ordering at www.goleopardstickets.com. Beginning that day, members of the public may order one ticket each until the supply is exhausted. Also beginning April 7, students, faculty, staff, retirees, alumni, and parents may order one ticket each, while supplies last, even if they already placed a ticket order during the initial ordering phase (March 28 to April 6).
Tickets ordered by students, faculty, staff, and retirees will be held for pick-up at the Athletic Ticket Office in Kirby Sports Center beginning Monday, April 9.
Alumni and parents placing ticket orders on or before Friday, April 13, must include a mailing address with the ticket order, as these tickets will be mailed to the address provided free of charge. Tickets ordered by alumni and parents after April 13 will be held for pick-up at the Athletic Ticket Office.
Tickets ordered by members of the public will be available for pick-up at the Athletic Ticket Office beginning April 9. Members of the public placing orders on or before April 13 may request to have their tickets mailed, for which there will be a postage-and-handling charge. Tickets ordered by the public after April 13 will be held for pick-up at the Athletic Ticket Office.
Please note the following updated information about picking up tickets.
If your tickets are being held for pick-up at the Athletic Ticket Office beginning April 9, please pick them up by Wednesday, April 25, or else notify the ticket office at (610) 330-5471 by the 25th that you plan to pick them up after that date. If you have not picked up your tickets by April 25—or notified the ticket office that you intend to do so—your tickets will be returned to the supply of available tickets.
The Athletic Ticket Office in Kirby Sports Center, 700 West Pierce St., is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. On May 2, the ticket office will have extended hours in the afternoon and evening to facilitate pick-up of tickets before the event.
Biden’s address is the College’s Lives of Liberty Lecture for 2011-12. The series features accomplished individuals whose lives embody the ideals of the Marquis de Lafayette in the world today. It was inaugurated in 2007-08, during the College’s yearlong celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Marquis’ birth. Previous speakers include David McCullough, Ron Chernow, Salman Rushdie, Simon Schama, and Gloria Steinem.
This is the second address by a major world figure at Lafayette this academic year. In October, Mikhail Gorbachev, former president of the Soviet Union, delivered a lecture celebrating the creation of the Oechsle Center for Global Education. Building on Lafayette’s strengths, the center will provide a dynamic, collaborative learning environment that is interdisciplinary in its orientation and innovative in its approach to learning and to global citizenship and service, enabling the College to globalize the curriculum and add a global perspective to the educational experience of every student.
Joseph R. Biden Jr. was born Nov. 20, 1942, in Scranton, Pa. He graduated from the University of Delaware and Syracuse Law School and, at age 29, became one of the youngest people ever elected to the U.S. Senate. As a senator from Delaware for 36 years, Biden established himself as a leader on some of our nation’s most important domestic and international challenges. As chairman or ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee for 17 years, he was widely recognized for his work on criminal justice issues, including the landmark 1994 Crime Bill and the Violence Against Women Act. He was at the forefront of issues and legislation related to terrorism, weapons of mass destruction, post-Cold War Europe, the Middle East, and Southwest Asia.
As the 47th vice president of the United States, Biden has continued his leadership on important issues facing the nation, helping to rebuild the economy and lay the foundation for a sustainable economic future. He continues to draw on his vast foreign policy experience, advising President Obama on a multitude of international issues and representing the U.S. to many regions of the world.
The government and law department is sponsoring a faculty and student panel presentation focusing on Biden’s role as vice president, his foreign policy positions, and his service to the Democratic Party.
