Actor, producer Daveed Diggs to share upcoming docuseries with Lafayette campus

Daveed Diggs, the renowned actor, writer, and producer best known for playing both the Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in the award-winning, record-breaking Broadway musical Hamilton, will share the upcoming docuseries The Class during a visit to Lafayette’s campus on Tues., Sept. 24. Diggs executive produced the series with Lafayette College President Nicole Hurd as part of their shared passion for student opportunity. Filmmaker Jaye Fenderson of Three Frame Media will also join them for this preview of the exciting work. 

Diggs and Fenderson will join President Hurd for a public conversation and Q&A at 4:30 p.m. in Colton Chapel. This event is open to students and members of the Lafayette campus community, including faculty, staff, alumni, parents, trustees, and neighbors. Attendance is first come, first served.

Before his open session, Diggs will spend time on campus, including attending a theater class.

“In addition to being a visionary artist and performer, Daveed is a close friend whose thoughtfulness and passion for increasing opportunity make a tremendous impact,” said President Hurd. “It is exciting to welcome him to campus so our students can discuss this meaningful documentary with all of us involved, especially Daveed and Three Frame Media. It’s a chance for our students to get behind the scenes as they learn about the inspiring stories of other students working to realize their potential through education.” 

Alongside Hurd, Diggs executive produced the docuseries The Class for public television station KQED out of San Francisco, California. The six-part series explores the experiences of high schoolers in the Bay Area coming of age during the COVID-19 pandemic. The series will air in spring 2025. 

Beyond Hamilton, Diggs has starred in television shows such as Black-ish, Snowpiercer, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and more. He also co-wrote, co-produced, and co-starred in the highly regarded comedy-drama Blindspotting. He is the vocalist and writer for the experimental hip-hop trio “clipping.”
