“Calculus and economics 101 have little to do with what I do now,” says Otis Ellis '89, who joined Morgan Stanley Dean Witter in Baltimore as a financial adviser earlier this year. “Lafayette's contribution to my career was to provide an academically and socially challenging environment that prepared me to deal with a wide range of clients with different needs. The ability to communicate with people has been the rudder of my career.”

Ellis, an economics and business graduate with a government and law minor, has worked for more than 10 years in the financial services industry, marketing financial services and products to investment professionals, individual investors, small businesses, and corporations. At Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, he is responsible for developing asset allocation, risk management, and investment portfolio strategies for his clients.

Ellis's previous employers include May Davis Group in Baltimore, where he served as vice president, institutional sales, and Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company, where he held positions in Philadelphia and Baltimore as a quoting analyst, regional sales executive, and regional sales director.

A standout athlete at Lafayette, Ellis was inducted last year into the Athletes of the Century Hall of Fame. He is treasurer of Prince George's County Young Democrats and a mentor for local elementary school students.
