Responsible for managing the legal department, as well as advising senior management and the board of directors on strategic and legal matter, Michael A. Gilbert '90 is general counsel of iVillage, Inc.

iVillage, a new media company, operates iVillage.com, providing information and support for women 18 and over; Lamaze Publishing, which produces educational materials for expectant and new parents; and the Newborn Channel, a satellite television network shown in over 1,000 hospitals nationwide.

Gilbert joined iVillage in 1999 as associate general counsel. He played an integral role in iVillage's initial public offering, follow-on offering, numerous acquisitions, and international and domestic joint ventures.
Gilbert was previously assistant general counsel for Legg Mason, Inc. Earlier he was a corporate associate at Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe in New York, and also at Kelley Drye and Warren. A government and law graduate, he has a J.D. from Georgetown University.

“Lafayette's government and law department, particularly the classes of Professor James Lennertz, played an influential role in my decision to apply to law school and helped prepare me for my current career path,” says Gilbert, who lives in Manhattan with his wife Lori Pisano Gilbert '92, and son Ryan.
