In his third term as mayor of Easton, Thomas Goldsmith '63 was awarded in June with the Pennsylvania League of Cities and Municipalities Distinguished Service Award.

Goldsmith has been active in the state association since his election, says Deborah Bitting, league spokeswoman. He served as league president from June 1999 to June 2000 and was on the board of directors during the past year. He also serves on several committees. Another factor in selecting Goldsmith, notes Bitting, was his leadership in the public-private partnership that has brought economic revitalization to Easton.

Goldsmith's past honors include the 1999 Governor's Award for Local Government Excellence. Also in 1999, Easton was named the Outstanding Pennsylvania Community by the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry. Goldsmith has served as director of Lehigh Valley Partnership, Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corp., and Easton Economic Development Corp.
