The Marquis Players will hold general auditions for the spring production of the musical Crazy for You at 7 p.m today and tomorrow in the Farinon Center Marlo Room. Prospective actors and actresses should attend only one of the two sessions.

A mandatory dance audition will be held 8 p.m. Thursday in Kirby Field House exercise room 1.

Directed by Bethlehem resident Janine Stavrovsky ’03, Crazy for You will be performed on campus March 15-17.

This is the Marquis Players’ 17th annual production to benefit charity. Previous shows have raised about $60,000 for hunger and homelessness causes.

Crazy for You opened at the Shubert Theatre Feb. 19, 1992, to critical acclaim. Frank Rich of the New York Times said, “The show is bursting with original talent that takes off on its own cocky path, pointedly mocking recent British musicals even as it sassily rethinks the American musical tradition stretching from the Gershwins to (Michael) Bennett.”

Four years and 1,643 performances later, the final Broadway curtain dropped. Crazy for You had won three Tonys (Musical, Costume Design, Choreography); two Drama Desk Awards (Musical, Choreography), and five Outer Critics Circle Awards (Broadway Musical, Choreography, Scenic Design, Costumes, Lighting).

Since the Broadway version has closed, any company can pay the royalties and stage Crazy for You. Licenses have gone as far as Capetown, Helsinki, Oslo, Budapest, Australia, Mexico City, London, and Indianapolis.
