Guitarist Bet Williams will perform 10 p.m. today at Gilbert’s. The concert is sponsored by Lafayette Activities Forum.

LAF weekend programming continues tomorrow with slam poet Flowmentalz, who will appear 8 p.m. at the Farinon Center snackbar. Flowmentalz performed on campus last Feburary at the Comedy Showcase.

After developing a cult following at Penn State in the ’90s, Williams packed up her poetry degree and a handful of songs to take them on the road. She has performed in places such as the House of Blues and the Troubadour in Los Angeles, the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, and The Bottom Line in New York City. She has shared the stage with artists as diverse as Joan Osborne, Arlo Guthrie, John Gorka, and Baba Olatunji. She was a finalist in the New Folk Songwriting Contest; an honor shared by Lucinda Williams, Nancy Griffith, and Lyle Lovett.

Williams has an upcoming release of her fourth full-length CD, Rose Tattoo, on Epiphany Records.

“A mover and shaker on the club and coffehouse scene for more than 10 years, Bet Williams seems primed to hit the big time,” writes Guitar One magazine. “She’s blessed with all the right stuff: a fantastic voice, a talent for songwriting, good musicianship and a charismatic stage presence. All in all you can bet on hearing more from this artist in the future.”
