Robert Weiner, Thomas Roy and Lura Forrest Jones Professor of History, will speak on “Doing Oral History: The Jews of France” 4:15 p.m. today in Skillman Library. The talk will be accompanied by a brief slide presentation.

Sponsored by Friends of Skillman Library, the event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be available.

Weiner will discuss the strengths and pitfalls of oral history, using the Jews of Dijon as well as a selection of Parisian Jewish leaders as a database. Emphasis will be placed on issues such as the impact of the Holocaust, Israel, anti-Semitism, acculturation, and intermarriage on French Jewish life and culture, as well as on the inner tensions that trouble the French Jewish community today.
