The Volleyball Club fell against some of the top teams in the East at the club championship tournament at Messiah College in Grantham, Pa. Saturday.

In its opening match, the team lost 2-1 against Elizabethtown, 25-20, 11-25, and 15-13. Team leaders were Kyle DeLabar ’05 with nine kills, Dan Huber ’02 (computer science) with six digs, Brian Holt ’02 (mechanical engineering) with five digs and six blocks, and setter Ryan Van Horn ’04 (chemical engineering) with 19 assists.

The top team in the tournament, Messiah, then beat Lafayette in two games, 25-21 and 25-18. Team leaders were DeLabar with five kills and Van Horn with 11 assists.

Lafayette lost two close games in its third matchup against Penn State University-Altoona, 25-22 and 25-23. Team leaders were DeLabar with eight kills, Wayne Scott ’05 with four kills and five blocks, Van Horn with seven digs and 17 assists, and Huber with five digs.

“We are losing two seniors, Dan Huber and Brian Holt; their dedication and inspiration was greatly appreciated and they will really be missed,” says Erin Brune ’05, team manager. “But it’s a very young team and hopefully we will get another freshman class like this year’s. Expect big things from next year’s team!”
