Luck was on junior Alex Balan’s (top right) side as he took first place for International Students Association in backgammon, going undefeated at rolling dice March 13-14 on the third floor of Kirby Sports Center.

Balan’s victory put ISA in a tie with Phi Psi for second place at 629 points in the McGaughey Trophy intramural standings as of March 15. Balan was followed by Gretel Raibeck ’03 (AGD), Steve DiMauro ’02 (Phi Psi), and Luke Landherr ’05 (P.T. Farinon). Theta Chi remained in first place with 723.5 points. On the women’s side, Tri-Delt kept its large lead with 777 points, followed by AGD (456) and Alpha Phi (388.5).

Art Owens ’02 (second from top) hit all targets to win first place in the super shooter contest by seven points 6-7 p.m. Feb. 25 in Kamine Gymnasium. He was followed by Erica Canzler ’04, Harry Armstrong ’02 (FIJI), and Blaine Williams ’02 (Phi Psi). Julie Struck ’03 (third from top) of Tri-Delt took first place in the women’s division.

In a tight game of five-on-five women’s basketball, Easton Hall prevailed 25-23 when a shot at the buzzer by the Smoothie Club faculty and staff team fell short. Easton team members were (L-R, third from bottom) Alyssa Wiley ’05, Chris Gotwols ’04, Deanna Stoddard ’05, Jackie Fitzgerald ’05 (L-R, bottom), Michele Toplitz ’05, Danielle Bernotsky ’05 (MVP), and Melissa Gorman ’05.

On the men’s side, Lamba Lamba dominated the independent Snowballers, 46-32, to the win the competitive league championship. The winning roster was (L-R, second from bottom) Spencer Williams ’02, Dan Kuberka ’03, Scott Gearhart ’03, Andrew Maurer ’02, and Billy Stocker ’03. The coaches and staff team tied with the independent Donkeys in third place. In the recreational division, the Gimp Squad defeated Delta Upsilon fraternity. The Gimp Squad (bottom) included Andy Starfield ’04, Ian Friedman ’05, Nick Tonzetich ’04, Justin Mihalinec ’04, Molefi Khumalo Asante ’04 (MVP), and Kevin McCabe ’04. Third place went to both Senior Demeanor and Theta Chi.

The basketball tournaments took place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from Feb. 4-March 6 in Kamine Gymnasium.
