For the second consecutive year, the Crew Club has brought home a gold medal from the Knecht Cup Regatta in Cherry Hill, N.J.

The novice men’s four cruised to victory in its heat and won the final by open water Saturday. The varsity men’s eight had won the Division II/III event at the 2001 Knecht Cup.

Lafayette also qualified for the finals in the men’s pair and novice men’s eight events, finishing sixth in both races. The Knecht Cup was attended by 57 schools.

The Lafayette women found the racing difficult against the many Division I varsity programs Saturday. The varsity women’s four and novice women’s eight both finished fifth in their heats and were unable to qualify for the finals. However, racing again in the Division II/III event, the novice women captured third place behind varsity programs from Bryn Mawr and Vassar Colleges. Lafayette crew was less than two seconds behind Vassar and easily defeated the other two club boats in the event.

Lafayette also rowed to a fifth-place finish in the women’s club four event.

The team closes out the dual racing season against Franklin and Marshall Saturday in Quakertown. This is the last race before the Patriot League Championships on April 28.
