The men’s novice four crew won by open water at the championship event held among Patriot League schools yesterday in rain-soaked Worcester, Mass. The rain finally ended just as the regatta concluded and the Lafayette crew was receiving its gold medal.

Lafayette led from start to finish in the race and finished 11 seconds ahead of the second-place Military Academy crew. Bucknell and Lehigh completed the field in the novice four event.

Lafayette was competitive in both the men’s and women’s novice eight events, but could not record a victory against the other schools. The novice women’s eight was in second place at the halfway point, but had trouble holding the pace in the second half of the race and finished in sixth place, seven seconds behind fifth-place Colgate. Army won both the novice eight events convincingly.

Lafayette’s women’s varsity four finished in fourth place, holding off fifth-place Army by less than a second and finishing well ahead of sixth-place Holy Cross. Lehigh, Bucknell, and Colgate captured the top three spots.

In the men’s varsity four, Lafayette finished in fifth place, four seconds ahead of Lehigh.

The Crew Club concludes its season May 10-11 at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia.
