Almost 1,000 alumni have already registered to come to Reunion June 7-9. It’s not too late to register. We’re looking forward to welcoming you back to campus. Come see the changes since you’ve graduated and reconnect with classmates and friends. You can register online until June 2 and even check out the list of alumni who are coming.

SKILLMAN LIBRARY TO BE TRANSFORMED
A $20-22 million renovation and modernization of Skillman Library will begin in December to further strengthen the College’s academic programs. The project includes a 30,000-square-foot expansion of the library and major changes to the existing structure.

LAFAYETTE DOMINATES ACADEMIC PORTION OF CONCRETE CANOE COMPETITION
After dominating the academic portion of the competition, civil engineering students came within one point of winning a regional championship in the 2002 National Concrete Canoe competition.

ANNUAL MINI-DRAGSTER RACE A SUCCESS
Ten teams of students in the mechanical engineering Manufacturing and Design class each designed, built, and tested battery-powered mini-dragsters to race on a 26-foot track in Farinon Center. Juniors Ryan Rubino, Jonathan Elam, and Dane Brodber designed and built the winning car.

FREEDBERG, HUGEL, AND HOFF TO BE HONORED AT COMMENCEMENT
Robert Freedberg ’66, president judge of Northampton County Court of Common Pleas, will received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree at Commencement May 25. Charles Hugel ’51, who chaired the successful Lafayette Leadership Campaign, will receive the Lafayette Medal for Distinguished Service, the college’s highest honor. An honorary Bachelor of Arts degree will be conferred posthumously on Aaron Hoff, a member of the inaugural class in 1832 and Lafayette’s first African American student.

PROFESSORS WIN NSF GRANTS FOR FACULTY/STUDENT RESEARCH
William Jemison ’85, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, has received a National Science Foundation grant of $124,000 for faculty-student research to improve high-speed wireless technology.

Matthew McGlone, associate professor of psychology, has received a $50,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to create a computer tool to unveil instances in which stereotypes affect children.

Profs. Arthur Kney, Javad Tavakoli, and Andrew Dougherty have received a $50,000 National Science Foundation grant for interdisciplinary faculty-student research on water and wastewater treatment.

Three Leopards were named to Verizon Academic All-American District II teams this spring in recognition of their academic and athletic skills.

MCCUTCHEON DISCUSSES THREE MAJOR ATHLETIC INITIATIVES
Athletic Director Bruce McCutcheon is committed to changing athletic programs from participant-based to competitive-based. He is starting by renovating the Maroon Club Strength Center, developing an athletic facilities master plan, and creating a full-time volleyball coaching position.

DADIO CAMPBELL NAMED WOMEN’S HEAD VOLLEYBALL COACH
Terri Dadio Campbell ’92 has been named head coach of women’s volleyball, the first full-time head coach in the program’s 29-year history.

ALUMNI TRIP TO HAWAII
An Alumni College course in the Hawaiian Islands Dec. 28, 2002-Jan. 10, 2003 will be led by Profs. Dru Germanoski and Larry Malinconico from geology and environmental geosciences. Visit active volcanoes, snorkel on coral reefs, and learn how the Hawaiian Islands evolve as they age.
